Mearl’s Machine Works Ltd opened in 1976,
in a small shop on what is now Gordon Road. Within the year
more employees, equipment and inventory was added. In 1978/1979,
Rudy Otter and Darryl Harris became partners. Rudy brought his
experience of the Bearings and Power Transmission Industry;
while Darryl had started as a Machinist apprentice in 1976.
Though the 1980’s, the locate on Gordon Road became too
small, we moved to our current location 1146 Richter Street,
constructing a larger building. |

Another addition of 2100 sq feet was added in 1984 as well as the
purchase of the neighboring lot( formerly Noca Dairy) Our philosophy
of getting customers jobs done quickly and efficiently was meet better
with these changes.
The company has from inception been involved in the training of tradesman
through the apprenticeship program, this policy continues to this
day. Kevin Fabian and Mike Hall started working for Mearl’s
while still attending school, upon completing high school both started
machinist apprentice programs, successfully 4 years later both obtain
full Machinist tickets.
Though the 1990’s the company continued to enjoy a period of
growth. In 1990 when the founder of Mearl’s retired, Kevin Fabian
and Mike Hall purchased shares in the company.
Jim Spangler originally started working in the shop, but moved to
the front to work with Rudy Otter in the Bearings and Transmission
Division.
The Millennium has continued to bring changes to Mearl’s.
In 2000, Rudy Otter announced his retirement, again looking inside
the company, Jim Spangler was offered to become a partner and in May
2001 this became a reality.
We have purchased several new pieces of equipment including 2 VDF
automatic lathes, Mazak Machining centre.
We recognize the improvements these new type of equipment have brought
to our business and will continue to purchase equipment to improve
our productivity and quality.
In the spring of 2004, another expansion was completed, this time
6000 sq ft was added.
Darryl Harris announced his retirement in May of 2005, sold his portion
to Ken D’Albertanson, continuing the tradition of hiring within.
Ken has worked with the company since 1988. He completed his apprenticeship
in 1993. Darryl continues to work here and Mearl’s currently
has 30 employees, a big change from it’s beginnings of just
